O’s Notes: This is trombonist Conrad Herwig’s third recording featuring the works of jazz icons following releases based on Coltrane and Miles. This time the focus is the music of Wayne Shorter. The recording studio is New York’s Blue Note Jazz Club. The musicians: Conrad’s Latin Side Band including special guests Eddie Palmieri (p) and Brian Lynch (t). These are premium ingredients and Herwig mixes them to perfection. They opened with an energizing arrangement of “Ping Pong” and never slowed down. Ruben Rodriguez (b) and Ronnie Cuber (bs) were featured in “El Gaucho” and Luis Perdomo (p) on “This Is For Albert”. Palmieri added an injection of salsa to “Footprints”. The live audience felt the vibe as we did time and time again listening to this CD.
