O’s Notes: Sammy gathered a group of musicians, friends one afternoon to jam and it magically evolved into this recording! The core players are Troy Roberts (sax), Alex Norris (t), Silvano Monasterios (p), Gaby Vivas (b), Normar Negroni (d) and Sammy on percussion. The title track is rather symphonic but generally these are upbeat swinging Latin tunes. They play classic jazz on “Firm Roots” accented with strong solos from Michalaks (sax), Orta, Afonso (d) and Figueroa and then spice it up a bit on “Crossroads” with Roberts and Monasterios featured. There are no misses here with strong performances throughout the band making this a great jazz album with strong Latin influences.
