O’s Notes: This is a sax quartet featuring Detroiter, Alex Harding (baritone), Sam Newsome (soprano) from Virginia, Jorge Sylvester (alto) from Panama, and Aaron Stewart (tenor) from San Jose. They all converged in NY and 3 years later we have this set — 5 originals plus Wayne Shorter’s Nefertiti. It’s free jazz with lots of imagination as suggested by the opener “The World According to Shaquana Goldstein”, a fictitious person who defies racial classification. Their music follows suit – on the edge.
