O’s Notes: Nick (g) leads an organ trio with Ed Withrington (B3) and Andy Watson (d). Moran plays a big box Gibson guitar and extracts big sounds from it. He composed all nine of these tracks. They are not all burners however as the simmer down for “Indigo City” and “The Black Rose”. But when they cook, it’s a tasty meal as on “Sensory Awakening”. They go mid-tempo on “The Secret Life”, with a festive hint of Latin rhythms and then get funky on “That Greasy Stuff”, a winner, before wrapping it up with the fusion laced “Shorter Steps”. Nick touches many points on this recording showing a great deal of versatility. We preferred Moran in the kitchen cooking like on the cool opener cool “Papa George”.
