O’s Notes: This recording captures Ella live for The Moment of Truth, at The Coliseum. This is a pristine, poised Ella, swinging, singing, scatting, and joking with the audience in 1967. She was in the middle of a tour with Duke Ellington and performs in front of his orchestra (minus Duke), with Jimmy Jones (p), Bob Cranshaw (b), and Sam Woodyard (d). Some of the rare songs included are pop tunes like “Alfie” and the title track. Other highlights are “Don’t You Be That Way”, “Bye Bye Blackbird” and the closer “Mack The Knife”.
