O’s Notes: NYC-based pianist and composer Ben Rosenblum reconfigures his trio with drummer Ben Zweig and bassist Marty Jaffe for this Portrait of the Artist: The Music of Gregg Hill. Hill is one of the more celebrated composers recently being covered by Rodney Whitaker, Randy Napoleon and others. The material is robust and the trio embraces it swinging gently on “Modal Yodel” as Rosenblum embellishes the compositions while staying inside of the boundaries of the composer before breaking into a full trot on the closer “Thank You Notes” with a taste of Monk.
