RCA Victor, 2006, CD
Jazz Ruler Type: Bebop
O’s Notes: This collection focuses on Sonny’s recording stint with RCA during 1961 & 1964 immediately following his hiatus from the scene. He is bursting with energy from his classic “The Bridge” shadowed by Jim Hall on guitar. The connection between Rollins and Hall was strong and you will hear a lot of it here on ballads as well. There is a bit of calypso pulled off of the Sonny Meets Hawk! album with Coleman Hawkins the second CD includes some jazz standards recorded with Herbie Hancock (p) and Ron Carter (b). This set shows the many facets of Rollins in his peak. It is undoubtedly some of his best stuff.
