O’s Notes: The Secret Session is another hidden gem from the archives of the legendary bandleader, composer Red Norvo. Red was a rebel in his time, and this recording was made defying the recording companies at the time. The musicians were on strike in 1942. So, we are only seeing a release of this septet recording in 2026! The complete roster is uncertain but includes Shorty Rogers (t), Aaron Sachs (cl, a-sax), Clyde Lombardi (b), and Specs Powell (d). It serves as a good glimpse of 1940’s jazz in America.
