O’s Notes: In the liner notes Toronto-based, journalist, guitarist Andrew Scott references the instrumental timber of this Canadian quartet, particularly the passionate warmth of tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton. Miles Black (p), Bill Cook (g) and Jodi Proznick (b) are equally adept in extracting rich tone from their instruments. The absence of a drummer allows full transparency of those sounds on The Slow Road, nine classics including a few originals. “Pompton Turnpike”, the soft “Luiza”, “Thanks For The Memories”, and the bouncy “Moose The Mooche”are highlights.
