O’s Notes: This CD captures a groove that has been infiltrating the downtown New York scene for several years. It is the blending of traditional turntables and digital electronics with free form improvisation. Anything can happen in these gathering and it usually does, with favorable results. Occasionally real instruments will be added to the mix. Drummer Billy Martin leads the charge capturing some of the best from the live sessions. The clubs represented are Exit Art, Bowery Poetry Club and Joe’s Pub. The players include DJ Olive, Mile Ill (g, vocal) on “Ramblin’ Man”, Dean Bowman with resonating vocals on “Giliad” and Chris Wood (b). This is significant in that it introduces hip hop, rock and club music fans to the world of improvisation and jazz art forms.
