O’s Notes: This is the second release that we’ve reviewed from MOPDTK. They marry avant-garde with Dixie and fusion. Ornette Coleman and his free improvisation and passionate expression inspire them. I don’t always get that passion here amidst the apparent rage. However the combination of their experiences with a loose structure produces some admirable results. “East Orwell”, an attack on smooth jazz, does extract some emotion from Jon Irabagon (sax) and we could feel it. We preferred the swinging vibe on “My Delightful Muse” and “Effort, Patience” with an almost reckless approach to the blues. They are a talented team continuing to carve their niche.
