O’s Notes: Trumpeter Benny Benack III also sings and leads the band on This Is The Life, a live set captured at The Blue Llama Jazz Club in Ann Arbor, MI. We enjoyed Benny’s work on trumpet and playful vocals throughout the set, particularly on a fine arrangement of “The Sound of Music” with solos from Russell Hall (b) and Mathis Picard (p). Special guest Benny Benack, Jr. adds warm sax on “Song For Our Roger” and “Sugar and Spice”. Joe Peri (d) holds the beats together while Benack III seems to be having a wonderful time. It’s contagious, a delightful experience.
