O’s Notes: Freddy has escaped the shadow of his famous older brother (Nat) and places his raspy vocals on ten blue ballads. The selections are both classic and obscure yet they all feel good when Freddy sings them. There is an exceptional sense of swing that is accented by two formidable sax men, Eric Alexander and David ‘Fathead’ Newman. The rhythm section is crisp as well with John di Martino (p), Derrick Hodge (b) and Mark Taylor (d). The results are a warm and inviting romantic session.
