O’s Notes: Togo Brava Suite was composed by Duke in response to the African Republic Togo who had commemorated Ellington in a series of postal stamp featuring the world’s greatest composers. the music was written in 1971 but never released or performed in it’s entirety. The 7-part suite is an insightful display of the influence of African music on Duke and on jazz itself.
