O’s Notes: Free jazz artists Satoko Fujii (p), Joe Fonda (b, fl) and Gianni Mimmo (sax) come together to create music that is inspired by the mysteries of the universe. They poke at each other playfully to spark moments of brilliance and complexity. It’s yet another of Fujii’s monthly releases in 2018 and one of our favorites. It commemorated her 60th birthday and her endless pursuit of free jazz mastery. Already a Japanese icon, we place Satoko as a“Living Legend.
