O’s Notes: Pianist Mike LeDonne brings his Groover Quartet with tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander, Peter Bernstein (g), and Joe Farnsworth (d). It’s tough to miss with this overdose of talent as they celebrate 25 years playing together. The 2-disc set captures then and now. Turn It Up! was recorded in 2024 at The Sidedoor Jazz Club in Connecticut. It’s a head-bobber from the start on “Slow Freight”. Bernstein speaks on “Mary Lou’s Blues”, LeDonne dials in on “Who Can I Turn To” and “This Will Be”. You’ll See takes us back to 2004, Live at Cellar Jazz Club. Eric and Peter are is really burning on “11 years”. “Lament” is more laid-back featuring Bernstein. Alexander explodes on “Cherokee” with Farnsworth weighing adding a rousing solo, and Ledonne brings it all together on “Delilah”.
