O’s Notes: This session consists of eleven original compositions that are as fresh as the morning sunshine burning off dew in the springtime. Pianist D’ Amico teams up with bassist Marc Johnson and drummer Ronnie Zito to perform a relaxing set. “Theme in Bb minor” starts off swinging then morphs into a lovely Latin tune with calypso beats. Jay’s work on piano is excellent and his accompaniment supports him well. We enjoyed the happy-go-lucky feel on “Fuga” and “Sonata Mvt. I”. We also liked the groove of “Improvviso” which started with a classical piano solo. Jay infuses classical elements into the jazz matrix in a way that will please both audiences. We play this disc for many occasions.
