Jazz Ruler Type: Avant Garde
O’s Notes: Kurt composed and arranged these orchestral and chamber compositions bringing tradition into today’s space and time. This music is at times dark and dreary as suggested by the title but is also serves as a relaxing backdrop on “Fantasy”. It is provocative with many layers of depth. We found it perplexing at times but always engaging. It is not classical in the purest sense but a blend with jazz that includes the spontaneous thoughts of avant-garde during “Scherzo” for example. There is a lot of emotion expressed by the large ensemble and we suspect enjoying this live would be quite an experience.
