O’s Notes: Miami-based Venezuelan pianist Steve Monasterios wrote eight new compositions for Unconditional, a suite of moods that shines as a collection. That is not to say the individual songs are not great. Far from that, “Monsieur Petit Noir”, “A Song for Jaqcues” and “Forgotten Gods” with Roberts whaling, are memorable pieces. His compadres are Tony Roberts (sax), Jon Daduka (b), Gabriel Vivas (b), Rodolfo Zœñiga (d) and Jose Gregorio Hernandez (perc). They blend well together as a unit making this one sizzle.
