O’s Notes: Drummer, percussionist Enrique Haneine leads a quintet on an exotic journey of syncopated, thought provoking, free jazz. Thomas Heberer (t), Catherine Sikora (sax), Christof Knoche ((b-cl) and Jay Anderson (b) join him on Unlayered. The program includes several melancholic ballads centered on discovery and inner thoughts. “Luculent Jiggle” is a syncopated, upbeat piece contrasted with the swinging “Queen of the Underground”. We also enjoyed “Dance of Endless Encounter” as Haneine and his team peel the onion.
