O’s Notes: Matt Herskowitz is a young pianist with a lot to say. He performs a solo set at the Upstairs Jazz Bar in Montréal late in 2011. The program includes two originals along with six classics. You won’t need to get too far into the set to realize that Herskowitz is a master on the ivory. He uses dynamics and pace to convey emotion as opposed to just dazzling the listener with fleeting finger work. We were more impressed with the passion as was his audience. The recording quality is outstanding adding to the enjoyable listening.
