O’s Notes: The intent with Urban Still Life is to present the musical experience of American urban settings, including the culture that resonates within. The band is a tight large ensemble with a full brass complement and strong percussion. They start out swinging hard on “In Walked Bud” followed by “Road Song” with Lou playing flute. They continue along these lines with a joyful collection. This combination of standards cuts across most urban centers and is an excellent portrayal of the music within. For the listener, it’s a high.
