O’s Notes: Fusion pianist James Carney appears here with six other musicians in a freely improvised session. Peter Epstein (sax), Tony Malaby (sax), Ralph Alessi (t), Chris Lighthouse (b), Josh Roseman (tb) and Mark Ferber (d) are a strong supporting cast. They play an eclectic mix of nine selections, composed all or in part by Carney. They squawk, squeal and extract creative sounds from their instruments in what seems to be a random experience. It is not overly congested and easy to enjoy for those of us who enjoy free jazz. Sound quality is superb on this SACD, one of what seems to be a disappearing breed.
