O’s Notes: Guitarist Jeff Richman assembles a seasoned quartet with drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, George Whitty on keyboards and bassist/producer Jimmy Haslip. XYZ is fine contemporary jazz-fusion album incorporating syncopated beats with a contagious, funky groove. We enjoyed the relaxed pace of “She’s Got To Be Somewhere” and the rockin’ vibe on “Left Right Here”. Bassist Dean Taba brings reggae beats to “Be Cool”, and Otmaro Ruiz steps in on keyboards imparting a Latin vibe on “Ray Barretto” to keep the set fresh.
