O’s Notes: There is no doubt that Billy Strayhorn was one of the greatest jazz composer/arrangers of all time. He was able to breathe new life into standards while maintaining the original artist emotions. This is the first commercial recording of these 14 songs performed by The Dutch Jazz Orchestra lead by Jerry van Rooyen. They play it straight, placing accents in all the right places and exploding with the power of a big band. It’s good, warm and balanced listening.
