O’s Notes: Composer and guitarist Ricardo Grilli leads a quintet that performs his music, a reflection of the band’s live performances in New York City. He captures many themes of jazz legends in his work while creating a fresh landscape. The rhythm section: Kevin Hayes (p), Joe Martin (b) and Erick Harland (d) provide a solid foundation. Saxophonist Mark Turner stretches out on “Signs” complimenting Grilli on the lead line. We also enjoyed “183 W 10th St” and the warm ballads like “Virgo” (Oliver’s Song).
