O’s Notes: This is a wonderful collaboration between the Metropole Orchestra conducted by Vince Mendoza and guitarist John Scofield. This is the third album they’ve produced going back the Mendoza’s first in the 1990s. The music is happy and even festive on “Jung Parade”. The power of the large ensemble is not overwhelming but complementary on both ballads like “Honest I Do” and upbeat fusion tunes like “Peculiar”. They add variety with the western spirit of “Twang”. It is a different twist from a typical Scofield jazz-fusion album and it is done well.
