O’s Notes: Kris has a pretty voice packed with energy. She teams up with Viv and Damian Rodd, who play a wide variety of instruments including a mastery of electronic keyboards. There are live brass for accents where needed. But Gayle sounds pretty good out front on “It Never Entered My Mind”. She sings a wide variety of tunes including countryside gospel on “Sermonette” and swing on “The Song Is For You”. Mark Hadley’s tenor sax on “8:00 am” is a strong complement to the rich vocal track, the sole original of the set. We liked Kris best on jazz standards like “All Blues” and the bossa nova arrangement of “Watch What Happens”. These arrangements make this a good session.
