O’s Notes: This is Laura’s second release and she is consistently pleasing. Her roots as a cabaret singer serve her well. She performs in front of a quartet with Damon Zick (sax) and Jack Le Compte (perc) from her first album. Karen Hernandez (p) and Lou Shoch (b) are the newcomers. The program is tried and true standards written by Mercer, Berlin, Porter and Gershwin. Hernandez and Ted Howe do a good job with the arrangements maintaining the integrity of the originals and optimizing for Laura. Highlights are “Too Darn Hot”, “Love Is Here To Stay” and “Let Yourself Go”. Our favorites: “Something’s Gotta Give” and “It Ain’t Necessarily So”.
