O’s Notes: This trio features Italian drummer Vinaccia, Scottish saxophonist Smith and leader, Norwegian bassist Andersen in a live concert at Belleville (Oslo, Norway). The genius is in the spontaneous improvisation applied to each composition. The moods vary from calm and peaceful to free spirited rage with Smith wailing on his horn. We enjoyed the bounce of “Independency Part 4” and the high energy of “Outhouse” featuring a strong bass solo from Arild. The Scandinavian jazz scene is alive and well.
