O’s Notes: Ben leads a trio with Harish Raghavan on bass and Nate Wood playing drums. Wendel is one of the few jazz sax players who also plays bassoon and piano. They play eight bop tunes, mostly originals by Wendel or Raghavan. We liked “Shamed Into Love”, a ballad and the more upbeat “What Was”. There are also a few that cross into free jazz territory like “Break”. Over all it is a creative album though we had hoped to hear more bassoon.
