O’s Notes: We didn’t quite know what to expect from a band called Graffiti but we were pleasantly surprised! David Matthews (p), Paul van Wageningen (d), Joe Cohel (sax), Mike Olmos (t), John Witala (b) and producer, arranger Ray Obiedo (g) are all established jazz musicians who come together for this project. They play straight-ahead bop on “Apropo”; a little Latin on “Leeway” & “Caragua”, some funk with “The Goodwin”, some cool swing for “”BL&T”; two waltzes: “Romessa” & “Walls”, and “Flower In the Rain”, a warm ballad. The net impact is positive, as this is just enjoyable!
