O’s Notes: Saxophonist, composer Jordan VanHemert leads an all-star sextet with Terell Stafford (t, flugelhorn), Michael Dease (tb), Helen Sung (p), Rodney Whitaker (b), and Lewis Nash (d). They open strong with “Here and Now” and “Tread Lightly”. We enjoyed two duos, “Sea of Tranquility”, showcasing Sung, and “Come Sunday” featuring VanHemert with Whitaker. They close out the set with traditional “Mo’s Blues” and “Survival Of The Fittest” featuring Stafford and Nash with rousing solos.
