O’s Notes: Hilary is a very dramatic balladeer. This album is dedicated to thirteen duets. In such a format there is nowhere to hide! This is a wonderful thing with the beauty of her voice. Kole is accompanied by a group of great pianists including Hank Jones, Cedar Walton, Freddy Cole, Kenny Barron, Alan Broadbent, Dave Brubeck and Monty Alexander. We enjoyed “It’s Always You” with Freddy Cole who also sings with her as well! The songs are everlasting classic that never grow old. “Lush Life”, “But Beautiful”, “These Foolish Things” and “You Are There”. The different pianists add variety and Kole’s performance is applaudable making this an intimate gem.
