O’s Notes: Guitarist Cory Wong wrote and produced all of the music on this two-disc set. The band is Billy Peterson (b), Zach Schmidt (d), Dan Musselman (p), Kevin Gastonguay (p, Fender Rhodes) and Wong (g, b, p). They play as a 4 or 5-piece band with the second disc dedicated to the latter. The quintet configuration uses both keyboard players with Gastonguay switching to the Rhodes. Peterson bows out of the second CD leaving bass work to Wong, Andy Shuster or Patricio Creus. The music is a neobop/fusion blend highlighted by “Vapors”, “Pass The Plate”, “Third Cycle” and “The Hunt”. This is a solid attempt that could’ve been better by slimming down the best selections to one Disc.
