O’s Notes: This is the debut recording for pianist Shamie Royston. She composed eight of the ten selections adding a cover of Horace Silver’s “Summer in Central Park”. Her husband Rudy who plays spirited drums for the session composes the final selection. Ivan Taylor plays bass and Camille Thurman adds vocals on “In This Quiet Place”. All of the songs reflect aspects of Shame’s life, snapshots illustrated musically. Portraits is a fine album of modern jazz.
