O’s Notes: Veteran jazz trumpeter has spent most of the last decade introducing new jazz talent into his ensembles. It has worked reasonably well but for“A Place In Time“he revisits his band from 1998-2001 and adds tenor/soprano saxophonist Ben Solomon. Patrice Rushen (p) shows amazing fluidity on “Around and Through” with Buster Williams running counter currents beneath on bass. They continue to dazzle us throughout the session. Meanwhile Wallace, Gary Bartz (alto sax) and Ben Solomon team up on melodies with sweet harmonies. They also show a penchant to swing with a little cat and mouse on “L’s Bop”. This is hard bop at its best, which is becoming the signature of trumpeter Wallace Roney on High Note records.
