O’s Notes: Rez gives us a lesson is jazz-fusion guitar artistry on Behind The Vibration, his Cuneiform debut. This is especially true on “Groundswell”. Abassi’s band Junction goes beyond support with strong solos from the entire crew. Mark Shim plays tenor saxophonist and MIDI Wind Controller. Ben Stivers plays keyboards and Kenny Grohowski keeps time on drums. They bring worldly influences into their jazz-rock potion. Rez is Pakistani-American, Shim is Jamaican-American and Stivers & Grohowski are American. They unite as one in this electric fusion that shows Abbasi continuing to innovate.
