O’s Notes: Parisian vibraphonist and composer Simon Moullier is cultivated with degrees in music from Berklee and The Thelonious Monk Institute. He’s a well-regarded musician on the NYC jazz scene. Spirit Song is a penetrating, jazz-fusion set with fresh ideas that are easy to embrace and enjoy. Moullier’s band is strong with fine work by bassist Luca Alemanno, saxophonist Morgan Guerin, drummer Jongkuk Kim and pianist Isaac Wilson. They are into the music, each other, and all of that positive energy flows into the groove, notably on “What If” featuring saxophonist Dayna Stephens. We also enjoyed “Bala” and the stop and go pace on “Acceptance”.
