O’s Notes: Composer, saxophonist Simeon Davis attended the University of North Texas where he honed his chops and was decorated with many honors and degrees then spent 17 years living in South Africa. His band blends genres on his latest work Of Narratives and Nocturnes. It’s a two-disc set with many strong musicians and guest artists including Rachel Azbell who adds complementary voicing on a couple selections. We also enjoyed vocalist Tyler Thomas’s work on “The Panther” and “Seven Come Wednesday”, and the South African vibe on “Ingoma Yoxolo”.
