O’s Notes: Canadian pianist/trumpeter, composer Brad Turner assembles a quintet with co-producer Cory Weeds (t-sax), Peter Bernstein (g), Neil Swainson (b), and Quincy Davis (d). The Magnificent is a cool set of nine songs with the energetic “Bernice” and “You’re OK” serving as a solo springboard for the band. We also enjoyed “Slapped My Mind”, and the title track, a reference to The Magnificent Thad Jones, who inspired Turner on these works.
