O’s Notes: New York based saxophonist Willie Morris brings an element of the blues from his native St. Louis to Unbound Inner, his latest release. He assembles a band with Behn Gillece (vibes), Jon Davis (p), Boris Kozlov (b), and Rudy Royston (d). Nine of the ten selections are originals by Morris (7) and Davis (2). There’s a cool funky vibe on “The Folks Who Live Down The Hill” and “Into Somewhere”. There are also warm ballads like “Charade”, and the cover of “Tell Me. A Bedtime Story”. We also enjoyed the mid-tempo “Comfort Zone” with Jason Tiemann subbing for Royston on drums.
