O’s Notes: Music has always been a pacifier for pianist, composer Simon Lasky. During the pandemic he reflected and composed as an escape from the losses he faced. The results of that effort can be experienced here in an optimistic bounce back of sorts. For The Dreamers is a mix of vocal and mixed-tempo, instrumental, jazz-fusion songs by Lasky’s large ensemble. Vocalist Ona K takes the mic on crisp arrangements of “Human Nature” and “Bye Bye Blackbird” featuring James Suggs (t). She can be heard on a few other selections as well. “The Outsiders”, “Everyday Hero” featuring guitarist Peter Mongaya, and “Tampa Strut” are other highlights is a well-balanced session.
