O’s Notes: Guitarist, composer, producer Flavio Silva leads a quartet with Gabriel Gaiardo (keys), Sidiel Viera (b), and Cuca Teixeira (d) for EKO, his latest release. The title means ‘lesson’ in Yoruba and illustrates the learning Silva experienced during the pandemic. We liked the variety in his compositions, all originals except the arrangement of “Don Quixote”. Of note are “Motaba”, “To Blade and Cowherd” and the title track.
