O’s Notes: Indian pianist Kavyesh Kaviraaj seeks to define his identity by way of his music on Fables, his latest release. He plays in a quintet with Jeff Bailey (b), Kevin Washington (d), Peter Whitman (sax), and Omar Abdulkarim (t). MMYYKK adds a vocal introduction on “Take My Hand”, and Aby Wolf provides vocalizations on “Beloved” in an otherwise instrumental set. “They Cannot Expel Hope”, “Who Am I”, and “Saudade” are the high notes.
