O’s Notes: Felipe Salles is a prominent reedman (notably on saxophone), a composer, arranger and producer. For Camera Obscura, he leads an octet with a solid rhythm section and strings by The Cushman Quartet. The music draws parallels to photographic scenes using angles, contrast, light, shadows and movement in a moving session. Sallles’ compositions are rooted in tango with both traditional and contemporary approaches. Tatiana Parra adds vocals on “À Deriva”. We also enjoyed “Perspective”, “Platus”, and the title track.
