O’s Notes: Steve Rawlins is a pianist, composer, arranger, musical director, and author. He takes the lead on Word On The Street, his latest release. He has a strong band with Sal Lozano (sax, fl), Grant Geissman (g), Ken Wild (b), Hussain Jiffry (elec b), and John Ferraro (d). We liked the freshness of “Friday Night” featuring Geissman and Lorenzo, the cool “Moraga Drive” & “The Knuckleball”, “Come With Me The Brazil”, and the warmth of “Reach Out”. The lone vocal track is “It’s Cool” with Rawlings’ daughters Marisa Bradfield and Victoria Rawlins, along with his former wife Isela Sotelo singing. The session culminates with a beautiful solo piano effort on “Let’s Get Lost”. It balanced and beautiful throughout.
