O’s Notes: This trio consists of bassist Frank Passantino, pianist Si Perkoff and leader Chuck Bernstein on drums. They are polished Bay Area musicians who do justice to these new arrangements of Monk’s tunes. They understand an important principle in the correct interpretation of Monk’s work: what’s not played is as important and the notes you hear! This album is the culmination of several years playing and studying Monk’s music. The improvisation is seamless and fits very well with the themes of the original compositions. It is apparent and enjoyable for the listener and especially Monk fans.
