O’s Notes: This is one of Marian McPartland’s Piano Jazz radio broadcasts featuring Dizzy Gillespie. It includes great conversations interspersed between the songs that accentuate the performance. Marian brings out the brilliance of Dizzy here as a musician and as a jazz master. They discuss and play a series of duets with Dizzy playing piano or trumpet. She also plays several solos for Dizzy. “Con Alma”, “Manteca” and “Night In Tunisia” are among the 9 tunes. This session was recorded in 1985 reflecting on the great career of a legend and his associations with the music and other jazz musicians.
