O’s Notes: Conductor Peter Herbert was fascinated by the presentation and voice of Billy Holiday. The 1st half of You’re My Thrill is a dedication to Billy combining the sweet vocals of Christine Tobin with a large string ensemble. Together they express the blue moods that Holiday expressed in her works. The lead instrument changes with each song adding depth and variety to the set. We really liked “Porgy” with the viola complementing Tobin’s voice. The 2nd half, Communications Error, centers on the sounds of New York City, the rat race! Both scenes are well orchestrated.
